Massage Therapy
Massage provides relief to people of all ages-from infants
to seniors-and from all walks of life-the competitive athlete
to the home gardener or the overstressed, overworked executive.
Treating the Body
Massage therapy addresses a variety of health conditions,
the most prevalent being stress-related tension, which, experts
believe, accounts for 80%-90% of disease. Massage has been
proven beneficial in treating cancer-related fatigue, sleep
disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, low back pain, immunity
suppression, spinal cord injury, autism, post-operative surgery,
age-related disorders, infertility, eating disorders, smoking
cessation, and depression, to name just a few. Here's why:
Bodywork offers a drug-free, non-invasive and humanistic approach
based on the body's natural ability to heal itself. Massage
has many physiological effects, such as:
- Increasing circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.
- Increasing joint flexibility.
- Reducing recovery time for strenuous workouts and eliminating subsequent pains of the athlete at any level.
- Improving range of motion and decreasing discomfort for patients with low back pain.
- Relieving pain for migraine sufferers and decreasing the need for medication.
Swedish Massage - a system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints.
Deep Tissue - releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. This type of treatment focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
Sports Massage - massage therapy focusing on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport.
John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach - a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Trigger Point Therpy - applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points"(painful irritated areas in the muscle) to break cycles of spasm and pain.
Pre and Post Natal - involves manipulation of the soft tissues, and is the physical movement, stroking, and stretching of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissue. Prenatal massage helps minimize stress, promote relaxation, and prepare the muscles for childbirth. Postnatal massage helps restore your muscles to a healthier, more normal status.
LaStone Therapy - a multifaced technique designed to benefit the client not only in relaxation but also serves as a therapeutic and detoxifing treatment. This form of bodywork involves the use of heated Basalt Stones applied to the body in various ways to relieve sore and stiff muscles.
